Love Note

I found this little note in Celeste's backpack today. It was really cute, but c'mon! She's in 1st grade!! I thought we wouldn't have to worry about this kind of thing for at least a few years.
She has a crush on a different boy in her class though. (Poor Nick!) This is a drawing she made later today...

Apparently, this is Celeste and Cameron after they get married. (At least they'll live in different houses? ha ha!) I don't get it, when I was her age, boys had cooties!

Needless to say, Daddy was not pleased with any of this.

I think this is very age appropriate. I think part of our problem is that as adults is we know WAY more than they do about what relationships can lead to and it is hard to think on their level (if that makes any sense!). My daughter wrote a little love note to a boy, that actually said I love you and I told her that it was fine if she gave it to him but he may or may not like it. She said, "that's ok, maybe his mom will like it."

I remember writing a love note to a boy and I mailed it. (it was summer time). His mom called my mom and my mom freaked out. I never told her about liking boys all growing up. A week before my wedding we had a big gathering with both families and my parents told Justin's sister that when I told them we were engaged they didn't believe me because they didn't even think he liked me!! Apparently, I was never very open with them about our relationship! :) So, the point of this LONG post is that I have decided to try and not overreact. I would rather my daughter told me about what she was feeling or what was going on, then not. I don't want her to be in a situation like I was where I didn't feel like I could be open with my parents about my relationships.

Whew.

The end.

Yeah, we've already started experiencing love notes with Breanne! And she's two years younger! Luckily Josh doesn't seem to interested. But I see a lot of it during primary, with the kids there. So cute!
I wonder if any of them ever pan out?
