So I took the kids to the neighborhood "big pool" for the first time today. Every mother knows what an ordeal it is getting the kids ready for the pool... (you help get their swimsuits on, grab the towels, water toys, arm floaties, snacks, get them lathered up in sunblock, etc. etc.etc.) So by the time we all got to the pool, we were just happy to finally be in the water. But naturally, within 2 minutes Benny needed to go potty. Well seriously, I was just too dang tired to drag the kids back out... so (still can't believe I did this) I whisper discreetly, "Ok, listen... just go swim over there and pee-pee in the pool." So I thought he did and everything was fine and we swam for another half an hour.
When we were all ready to go, we got out of the pool and Benny was really upset and he starts crying.
Me: "What's wrong Benny?"
Benny: "Mommy, I never got to pee in the pool."
"Benny, it's too late now... just hold it, and we'll just go potty at home, ok?" trying to calm him down.
THEN being the irrational toddler he is sometimes, he starts freaking out, and says, "But wait... you said I could pee in the pool!!" I'm trying to calm him down and keep him quiet, but it soon escalates, and he starts yelling, "I wanted to pee in pool!!" "YOU SAID I COULD PEE IN THE POOL MOMMY!!!" over and over. So I'm just shushing him, and smiling politely at the onlookers who by that time were whispering and laughing. I was so embarrassed!!
It was one of those moments where all I wanted to do was just get out of there... fast, so I grabbed ALL our stuff and all the kids and whisked them away. I think it might be a while before we visit the pool again (well THAT one anyway.)
Ahh, the joys of motherhood.

Oh, the joys of small children and pools! That is too funny to read, but I'm sure I would have been mortified if I was living it!
That is so funny and embarassing. I am sorry that happened to you. I would have lost it if that happened to me. Kids say the craziest things.
Happy Birthday Celeste! She is definitely full of sunshine and personality. Having been blessed with a few strong personalities myself I can totally understand how wonderful and exhausting it can be at the same time. Your pool story struck a chord. It's so difficult dealing with that situation when you are in the pool with multiple little ones. It seems as soon as I get in the pool with the kids one of them needs to use the bathroom. And do you get out with all the kids or can you leave a few of them???? Nice to know I could be swimming in pee next time I go to the pool!
LOL so funny
No worries Sarah... it won't happen again. I learned my lesson this time! ;)
I feel your pain, I was laughing out loud on that one. Hey, maybe we could go together some time. My older kids and I could help you out! Would you consider the YMCA pool?
Ha. Caught. I tried the same thing lately. I told Maya not to pee in the pool if she had to go, but to pee in the grass! (Outside the pool). She peed in the pool anyway and then told the other kids. It was a small swimming pool. They freaked out and started yelling about her peeing in the pool and she ended up crying and coming home!!
Tracey,
That would be great! I love the YMCA pool. Except I don't really need much help there because I just leave a couple kids in the nursery... but it would be fun to have friends to swim with. :)
Ok just remind me not to get out of the big pool when you guys come in haha!!!! jk Isn't that what the chlorine is for????
I used to do yeard work for a lady who had a sign in her backyard pool area that said, "No P in the OOL"! It always made me chuckle. I'm sure nobody will remember you guys at the pool! I've done so many embarrassing things and feel mortified every time I think about them. But then when I am around those same people they either have forgotten or are too polite to receal my freak nature to others...usually! ;)
Heee heee heee...haa haa haaaaa...Sorry, but that was so funny I alsmost spit my juice out while I was reading! Haa haa haa!!!
HYSTERICAL!!!
