Rain Rain Come Again!

"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass,
It's about dancing in the rain."
-Unknown

I LOVE the rain. Maybe it's because I grew up in the Seattle, Washington area and it reminds me of home. Or maybe it's because it makes me feel like getting cozy and cuddling up by the fireplace with a good book. Or maybe it's because I like to get out there and play in it.

That's right... there's my confession... I have been known to jump and dance and play in puddles when no one is looking. No, I'm not talking about during my childhood, I'm talking about... like yesterday. I try to do it when no one is around because I think if people were to see a grown woman splashing in mud puddles, they would probably think I was a complete nutjob. But why?! Seriously, who determines at what age it's immature to play in puddles anyway? I hope I'm still skipping, and playing hopscotch, and splashing in puddles when I'm 80. :)

And don't even get me started on umbrellas. We don't even own one. So what if your hair gets wet?! That old myth about getting sick if you go out with wet hair, or if you go outside without a jacket, is just that... a myth. You get sick from bacteria and viruses, NOT from the weather.

So if I may offer a suggestion for those who get depressed when it rains... next time it's raining and "gloomy" outside, consider it a fun opportunity to get out and get some exercise and breathe in the fresh air. Instead of cancelling plans or staying cooped up all day, get out there and enjoy it! And let kids be kids. It won't be much longer till they're expected to act like grown-ups, and they won't be able to splash in puddles anymore. Well, unless nobody's looking anyway.

You have such a great attitude, Nicole! And your kids now have it, too! You are such a fabulous mom!

we are kindred. I like to play in the rain too. I did just that a couple of months ago, but hmm, we were at Costco. It was just pouring so hard, I couldn't resist. We were going to be drenched before we got to the car, so honestly, what could it hurt. ;) Not only did the people around me think I was crazy but my own children! Don't worry though, I persuaded them to join in the fun when we arrived home.
